Prayer Is Not the Last Thing We Ask For
People often ask Sharon and me, “What do you need most?”
There are plenty of answers we could give.
Buildings need to be built. Vehicles need fuel. Schoolbooks need to be purchased. Pastors need to be trained. Villages need to be reached. And somehow, no matter how many tools I own, I can usually find one more that I am convinced is absolutely necessary for the ministry.
But our greatest need has always been prayer. Not because prayer is what we say when we do not know what else to ask for. Prayer is the foundation underneath everything we do. We are serving in places where human ability can only take us so far. We can drive down the road. We can walk into a village. We can sit underneath a tree. We can open a Bible. We can preach the Gospel.
But only God can change a heart.
Only God can call a pastor.
Only God can build His church.
Only God can take something that begins with a handful of people sitting under a tree and turn it into something that reaches people we may never meet.
So when you pray for us, you are not standing on the sidelines of this ministry.
You are part of it.
How You Can Pray Right Now
Pray for the Gospel to Reach New Villages
God continues opening doors farther into the Sikute Chiefdom.
Some of the communities we are working in are far from an established church, and many people have little or no access to biblical teaching. In some areas, even owning a Bible is uncommon.
We are beginning Bible studies in places where people may walk hours to reach the nearest church.
Please pray that God would prepare hearts to receive the Gospel.
Pray for people to understand that Jesus is not simply another god to add alongside traditional beliefs, ancestor worship, witchcraft, or anything else they may have trusted.
Our God is the One True God.
Following Christ means surrendering to Him alone.
Pray for genuine salvation, not simply religious interest.
And pray that the gatherings beginning under trees today will one day become strong, biblical Zambian churches.
Pray for Chabantu Missionary Baptist Church
Chabantu will always have a special place in our hearts.
The church began with people meeting underneath a tree.
No building.
No pews.
No sound system.
No air conditioning—which, for the record, is still a subject near and dear to my heart.
Just people gathering to worship God and hear His Word.
Today Chabantu Missionary Baptist Church continues to grow, but our desire is much bigger than simply filling a church building.
Please pray for spiritual maturity.
Pray for Bro. Winford and the other Zambian believers who are growing in leadership.
Pray for men who will become pastors, teachers, deacons, missionaries, and church planters.
Pray for women who will disciple other women.
Pray for parents who will lead their families toward Christ.
And pray that Chabantu will someday become a mother church that helps plant other churches throughout the Sikute Chiefdom and beyond.
Pray for Chabantu Missionary Baptist Academy
What began in January 2024 with 17 children and two teachers has grown into a school serving more than 200 children.
Every one of those students represents a family.
Every school day gives us another opportunity to teach children reading, mathematics, science, and the other subjects they need—but also to teach them about Jesus Christ.
Please pray for our teachers and staff.
Pray for wisdom for the school board.
Pray for the children who are struggling academically.
Pray for our Grade 7 students as they prepare for their national examinations.
Pray that the children will not simply learn Bible stories, but will come to personally know Christ.
Pray for the families represented by our students.
And pray that God will continue providing the books, food, uniforms, classrooms, salaries, and other resources necessary to operate the school.
We want Chabantu Missionary Baptist Academy to do more than produce good students.
We want it to help shape a generation that knows the truth of God’s Word.
Pray for Discipleship
Evangelism is only the beginning.
Jesus did not command us merely to collect decisions. He commanded us to make disciples.
That means walking with people.
Teaching Scripture.
Answering questions.
Correcting misunderstandings.
Encouraging believers when they struggle.
And sometimes explaining the same thing for the tenth time—which, come to think of it, sounds a lot like pastoring anywhere in the world.
Please pray for the men’s Bible studies, women’s Bible studies, children’s ministries, village Bible studies, and one-on-one discipleship taking place throughout our ministry.
Pray especially for believers who are leaving behind deeply rooted traditional religious practices.
Some decisions are not easy.
Following Christ can affect family relationships, community expectations, and traditions people have practiced their entire lives.
Pray for courage.
Pray for biblical understanding.
Pray for perseverance.
And pray that disciples will become disciple-makers.
Pray for the BMA Global Zambia Bible Institute
One of our greatest long-term ministry goals is the development of the BMA Global Zambia Bible Institute.
God has provided land in the Sikute Chiefdom where we hope to establish a permanent place for training pastors, church leaders, teachers, and future church planters.
The goal is not to build something that depends on Mickeal and Sharon Quillman forever.
Actually, quite the opposite.
We want to help train Zambians who will teach Zambians.
Pastors who will train pastors.
Churches that will plant churches.
Leaders who will continue long after Sharon and I are gone.
Please pray for the development of the property.
Pray for the resources needed for construction.
Pray for the curriculum and training programs.
Pray for the pastors and leaders God is already preparing to attend.
Most importantly, pray that everything developed there remains firmly grounded in Scripture.
Our prayer is that the influence of this ministry will eventually reach places Sharon and I will never see.
Pray for Community Outreach
Ministry does not always happen behind a pulpit.
Sometimes it looks like helping with cattle vaccinations.
Sometimes it means responding during a drought.
Sometimes it involves delivering baby kits to new mothers.
Sometimes we are helping with medicine, transportation, food, school needs, roads, or whatever else happens to appear that particular day.
Missionary job descriptions can be a little flexible around here.
These practical opportunities allow us to love people before asking them to listen to us.
Please pray that every act of service opens doors for genuine relationships.
Pray that we never confuse meeting physical needs with the Gospel—but that we also never preach a Gospel that ignores the people standing right in front of us.
Pray that people see the love of Christ in both our words and our actions.
Pray for Zambian Leadership
This may be one of our most important prayer requests.
The future of this ministry should not rest primarily on American missionaries.
We want to see strong Zambian pastors.
Zambian teachers.
Zambian evangelists.
Zambian church planters.
Zambian men and women discipling the next generation.
Please pray that God will call leaders from the communities where we are serving.
Pray that we will recognize them.
Pray that we will have the wisdom and patience to train them well.
Pray that we will know when to lead, when to walk beside them, and when to move out of the way.
Our desire is simple:
Zambians reaching Zambians with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pray for Our Family
Please pray for Sharon and me personally.
Missionary life is a blessing, but living thousands of miles from children, grandchildren, family, friends, and our home culture is not always easy.
We have three grown children and six grandchildren in the United States, and we miss more birthdays, ballgames, school events, holidays, and ordinary family moments than we would like.
Please pray for our marriage.
Pray for our health.
Pray for wisdom.
Pray for physical strength.
Pray for safety as we travel long distances and into remote areas.
Pray that we will guard our time with God and with one another.
And pray that ministry never becomes more important to us than the God who called us to it.
Pray for Our 2027 Furlough
Beginning in January 2027, Sharon and I will be back in the United States for furlough and deputation.
We are looking forward to seeing family, reconnecting with supporting churches, visiting new churches, and sharing what God has been doing in Zambia.
Please pray for safe travel.
Pray that God will open doors with churches that need to hear the story of what He is doing here.
Pray that our time in the States will encourage others to become more involved in missions.
Pray for opportunities to challenge young people and adults to consider what God may be calling them to do.
And pray for the ministry in Zambia while we are away.
A healthy ministry should continue even when the missionary is not standing in the middle of it.
That is something we very much want to see.
Pray for Financial Provision
God has been extraordinarily faithful through churches and individuals who financially support this ministry.
We are still working toward being fully funded and currently need approximately $2,500 more per month in regular missionary support to reach 100 percent of our support goal.
Please pray that God will raise up churches and individuals who want to partner with us monthly.
There are also continuing project needs connected with the school, Bible Institute, outreach, transportation, training materials, buildings, and ministry expansion.
We do not want money simply for the sake of having money.
We want the resources necessary to walk through the doors God is opening.
Please pray that He provides exactly what is needed, when it is needed.
He has done it before.
We have every reason to trust Him to do it again.
Don’t Forget to Thank God With Us
Sometimes prayer pages become long lists of everything that is wrong.
We do not want ours to be that.
God has answered too many prayers for us to spend all our time asking for the next thing without stopping to thank Him.
We once prayed that God would show us where to serve in Zambia.
He did.
We prayed for an open door into a community.
He gave us Chabantu.
We prayed for opportunities to share the Gospel.
He put us underneath a tree.
We prayed for a church.
A church was established.
We prayed for opportunities to reach children.
God gave us a school that now serves hundreds.
We prayed for deeper access into the Sikute Chiefdom.
God opened new villages.
We prayed about training pastors and leaders.
God provided land for a Bible Institute.
And now we find ourselves praying underneath another tree and wondering what God may do next.
